Las De Latuición (or also known as the intuition one) is from Shakira’s last Spanish speaking album, Fijación Oral Vol 1. This track was also translated and included in her english album - Oral Fixation Vol 2. The track was named “Pure Intuition“.

Las De Latuición was released in Latin America and also in spanish speaking countries in Europe. The track is Shakira’s biggest spanish song ever after Suerte (Spanish version of Whenever Whenever) and Hips Don’t Lie. It hit #1 in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Mexico, Spain, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile and in Turkey.

Below are the few of the many remixes released for the track…
There are english and spanish versions of the remixes…

Shakira! This girl probably doesnt need any introduction! She probably the biggest spanish crossover artist ever! She comes from Colombia, the origin of the big TV hit show Ugly Betty! Shakira music career started at the tender age of 13. Her first 2 albums were big commercial flops. Her first album only sound 1300 copies. After flopping so badly, her record company still allowed Shakira to make her third album, Pies Descalzos. It was then released internationally and debuted at #1 in 8 countries! From then on Shakira had made a household name for herself in the Latin American continent.

Since Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias made it big in the English market, it was not right not to take this opportunity to crossover. Her first english album, Laundry Service was the biggest selling album of 2002 with more than 20 million sold! Her second album didn’t sell well until she released Hips Don’t Lie (feat Wyclef John). It became one of the biggest hit of the year. Hitting number #1 in over 55 countries!

Shakira has definitely has a big catalogue of songs. Both Spanish and English. But my all time fave Shakira song is gotta be "" which just means "You". This song is described to be her most emotional songs ever. It reached number #1 at the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart and it peaked at #95 at Billboard Hot 100. Her first song ever on the main chart!

Although the song is GREAT, the music video sucks badly. It’s a one shot video. where she does the whole video in one take! To me this is a total waste of time watching it. You can see her shaving her legs. And to make it more tacky, out of a sudden a band started coming into the scene and started playing in the background! HAHA. Watch the video to see what i mean. Subtles included!

Our spanish column has been getting quite a number of responses. I’m glad you guys are lovin’ it! Although the songs we feature maybe years old, we will still post them. Because we always want to introduce the best to you, especially those who are not familiar with spanish music.

I first took noticed of Thalia when i watched a Mexican telenovela, Maria Mercedes. The novela was a huge hit not only in her home country but also in counties like USA, Spain, Indonesdia, China and in other 180 countries. Apparently it has been seen by 1 billion people! Including me of course. She was known as Queen of Telenovelas and a tender age of 24, she is the high paid actress in Mexico.

Thalia did venture into the English market in 2003 following the likes of Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, but failed to make the impact that she wished for. Her song, I Want You features Fat Joe only managed to peak at 22 at the Billboard Hot 100 charts. But it did go all the way to #1 in Japan. In the video, it can be seen that they are trying to market her as the next Jennifer Lopez (with all the ghetto Bronx looking in the video)

I didnt care much bout her music until my US spanish loving friend introduced her latest album at that time (2005) to me, El Sexto Sentido (The Sixth Sense). To date, its one of my fave spanish albums of all time. My fave songs from her album were “No Puedo Vivir Sin Ti” (I can’t live without you) and this featured track “Un Alma Sentenciada” (A sentenced Soul). It’s such a hot hot ballad. A MUST listen!!!

So many artists have jumped onto the Spanish bandwagon and so have we!

Since me and dirrtysean are such huge fans of Spanglish, Spanish songs, we decided to come up with a new column: Columna Española where we will introduce to you Spanish songs we totally dig. :)

For today, let me introduce to you the one other album I am a fan of apart from Lady Gaga’s - The Fame. Like I mentioned earlier, I don’t idolise, but this one album made me fall in love, it is none other than

Christina Aguilera - Mi Reflejo

Tracklisting
1. “Genio Atrapado”
2. “Falsas Esperanzas”
3. “El Beso Del Final”
4. “Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti”
5. “Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tú)
6. “Si No Te Hubiera Conocido”
7. “Contigo En La Distancia”
8. “Cuando No Es Contigo”
9. “Por Siempre Tú “
10. “Una Mujer”
11. “Mi Reflejo”

Mi Reflejo is Christina Aguilera’s first Spanish album, the album features 5 Spanish versioned songs from her English album, Christina Aguilera, namely, “Genio Atrapado“, “Mi Reflejo“, “Por Siempre Tu” , “Ven Conmigo” and “Una Mujer” these are translations of “Genie In a Bottle”, “Reflection”, “I Turn To You”, “Come On Over Baby”, and “What A Girl Wants”. It had won her numerous awards! Even a Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. She became the first American to win a Latin Grammy Award! It was reported that the album sold 4 million copies and it’s one of the most successful Latin albums ever!

The singles for the album are:
1. “Genio Atrapado” (2000)
2. “Por Siempre Tú” (2000)
3. “Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tú)” (2000)
4. “Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti” (2000)
5. “Falsas Esperanzas” (2001)

Now for my favourites:
  • Genio Atrapado: The Spanish version of “Genie In The Bottle” and also, the first Spanish song I discovered from Christina, after hearing the Spanish version, I became a convert.

  • El Beso Del Final: Translated as “The Kiss At The End” somewhere along those lines. A very classy track, one would picture ballroom dancing, and Paris with this track.

  • Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti: “But I remember you” this one is for broken hearts, the lyrics talk about how one tries to lead a normal life, but is hauted by the memories of an ex lover, and his/her whole world crashes. The fragility of love indeed. Also, my favourite track in the whole album. I listen to it on a daily basis.

  • Si No Te Hubiera Conocido: This is one hell of a romantic track, with Luis Fonsi’s smooth, dreamy voice, you’ll want to fall in love instantly if you have not. My second favourite. Translated as ” If I Hadn’t Met You“, the song is about how two lovers would be without each other, romantic lyrics.

  • Por Siempre Tú: The Spanish version of “I Turn To You“, this song never fails to give me the chills, Christina’s voice is so soul lifitng, its love at first listen.

Other tracks I dig are, “Ven Conmigo”, “Una Mujer” and “Mi Reflejo” not that the others are bad. they are just as good.

If you ask me why, I love this album or rather Spanish songs, I’d tell you, they give me this feeling, like as though, you’ve stepped into a dream, so beautiful, you never want to snap out of it. Spanish songs put me in the mood for love, help me think, help me dream, which so far, not many English songs have been able to do so.

So, if you are the kind who cries over sad movies, dreams of being happily in love, writes love poems wants true love, or anything along those lines, I’d encourage you to buy this album, listen to it, and fall in love all over again. Really. :)

Meanwhile, stay tune for the next posting in Columna Espanola, we will feature Luis Fonsi (*SCREAMS*)

Must Download!

Purchase "Mi Reflejo" on iTunes!
